Portage Description:
This portage is very hard to find from the Ima side. When the wind is blowing stongly from the west, finding it is problematic. You cannot see the Ima Lake side of the portage as you paddle from west to east across the lake. We sat on the most western of the north shore campsites (a nice one) and watched a party hunt for the portage for quite a while in the high wind. As you paddle toward the eastern shore, the portage is between the campsite on the point and the north end of the island campsite. Look for a rock mass which appears to slope somewhat to the north. The portage is north of that. The entrance to the portage is sheltered by a massive rock north of that. There is room for two canoes. When they are pulled into the portage, the bows will not be seen from the lake as the portage is actually behind the massive rock. The sterns will be parallel to the eastern shore and the canoes will be facing south. The beginning of the portage goes pretty much up--but then it levels off. What you see from the lake as you paddle around the rock is a bunch of rocks without lichen -- that's what you climb! Good luck finding this one!
