Portage Description:
Stairway Portage - This is a well maintained portage with average use. On the Dunkin Lake side there is a good rock entry to the portage. The first half of the portage is fairly flat and easy. You will want to stop and view the water fall to the east of the portage (very beautiful). The second half of the portage is a steep winding trail with a large number of wooden steps (about 150 if I remember correctly). The bottom of the portage is rough and rocky, difficult footing. The portage entry on Rose is large, dirt, and easy to enter. This portage is obviously more difficult going from Rose to Dunkin (around 250 ft elevation change?)
