Portage Description: Finding this one was tougher than expected at first - the trail at the John Lake end was a running stream on the way in, but was much drier on the way back a few days later. A good stiff climb at each end with a few mucky spot between meant wearers of standard height hiking boots suffered wet feet. I'd rate it above average, harder than the next portage on the west end of East Pike and also a tad longer than what Beymer lists. A small stretch of steep rocky area on the est end of the portage just above East Pike was a minor challenge coming down when it was wet. Lake after portage: East Pike Known campsites: not sure Lake Description: Water wasn't too clear on the east end at the end of a long wind fetch and after a rain, clearer on the west end when we paddled out. Suspended stuff looked to be mostly organics. Portage from East Pike into: West Pike Return to John
