Portage Description:
Surprisingly strenuous for such a short one, although it WAS the first trip after a long winter... several spots with slippage potential as I recall.

Lake after portage: Missionary
Known campsites: 2
Lake Description:

This area was hit hard by the 1999 blowdown and has very few large trees on the horizon. The visual impression I carried home from there is more taiga-like than you'd expect this far south - kinda different than other spots I've traveled in BWCA, pretty barren feeling and definitely not for everyone who paddles. Two campsites showed on the McKenzie map, but we had a hard time finding the south one based on where it showed on the map (it was further east than we thought. We camped on one on the north side that was fairly open with brush and timber reign nearby. I'd pick the other one next time thru. Lake trout are in the lake but were hard to find for our party and one other that passed thru while we were there.
