Portage Description:
Very long portage, waist deep mud in places. Watch your step. There is a creek about a third of the way thru. You will need to bring all your gear to this point, then cross the creek and finish the last two thirds. The creek is too deep and wide to cross on foot. There is also a pretty good hill shortly after the start. This portage took us about 4-5 hours to finish. If you're headed towards Kawnipi and want to skip McKenzie Lake and the long portage into it, I would suggest trying the Cache River on the west side of the lake. Follow your maps closely here. The river winds and has tributaries. Start early. There are no campsites on the rivers edge. GOODLUCK.

Lake after portage: Cache

Lake Description:

Cache Lake is secluded. A few good campsites. Nice trout fishing also. A few moose sightings in this area.
