Portage Description:
A portage connects these two major bays of Basswood, but it can be avoided by simply paddling through a little swamp connecting the two bays. This avoids doing either the portage or a 5 mile detour to the north. I traveled this myself (through the swamp) and had no problems. A forest service person I talked to later confirmed that this is a good route to take.
