Portage Description:
The portage is not long but is very steep. Roughly the first third is a steep and winding trail. The middle section consists of two flights of steps (well over a hundred steps combined). The steps are nice compared to the alternative, but they can be exhausting for older paddlers. One also has to be careful with longer canoes. I was carrying a 20 ft MN3. If I didn't keep the canoe at the right angle the bow tended to bonk into higher steps, providing an unwelcome jolt on an otherwise tiring ascent. The final third, the upper third, of the portage is easy. A good idea is to plan on taking a break at the falls a little more than halfway up. The scenery is well worth it!

Lake after portage: Duncan
Known campsites: 6
Lake Description:

Rose is beautiful. The first two campsites to the east are very nice as is the site just NW of the portage - although you'll hear every group on the portage.
