Portage Description:
It begins with a 50-60 degree sloping rock/hill upwards about 30 ft. The terrain is very rocky and winds along a small cliff edge at first. About 1/4 of the way the trail bears left on a large rock with a small pond/bog to your left-the rock is ground level but clear of grass and dirt thus obscuring the trail, make sure you don't follow the moose path that goes straight ahead. You will swear that the portage just dead-ends about 70yds into the thick stuff, and you probably won't be as lucky to have a USFS ranger calling out asking if your lost because she hears voices well off the trail. Once back on the trail, at the halfway point you have made it to the top of the ever upward sloping trail. What a view!! You can see Seagull Lake about 3/4 of mile off in the distance and all the forest between it and you. It makes the portage well worth it. From that point the trail is a steady slow decent to Seagull winding through the woods crossing the same creek several times. This half is much less rocky, and you will arrive at Seagull in no time.
