Quetico portage Posted by: louisa Season/Year: Spring 03 Water Level: low Length: 290 rods Rating: difficult | Additional Perspectives: pete |
Portage Description:
A long but not too bad portage. Has a nice corduroy log section in the middle, followed by a tricky stretch along the top of a huge old beaver dam. Watch your footing. The put in on the unnamed lake to the north is down a steep large granite outcrop. From the lake you would see no portage, so look for the white outcrop with a large blowdown on top, roots facing lake. Difficulty rating is due to the length, beaver dam, and put-in, otherwise really not bad and deserves it's "Bonhomme" name.

Lake Description:
This is a gem of a lake. Many islands, Lots of outcrop. Probably multiple bushwack campsites possible. I think I remember seeing a fire ring at an outcrop to the east of where the portage to the next unnamed lake is to the north.
