Portage Description:
Known as the Eat 'em up portage, this portage starts with going around a beaver dam on the creek before you even get to the beginning of the portage. Then it is uphill for a very short while and level until you hit the first of 3 mudholes. So, you cross one and then get a break and cross another etc. Tanner Lake is a beautiful site when you are finished.

Lake after portage: Tanner
Known campsites: 2
Lake Description:

Tanner Lake is named for the late John Tanner who was kidnapped by Indians in Ohio when he was a boy and brought to this area. When he was older, he was left for dead on the Tanner Rapids but survived. The Falls on the east side of May island is beautiful. There is an old Ranger cabin on that campsite. There is another campsite on the south side of May island.
