Portage Description: Lengthy portage with a good overall trail. Some climbs are a bit steep with slippery exposed rock. There is a good stopping point about 400-500 meters from Fern Lake (we started this portage at Olifaunt) where canoes and packs can be unloaded without blocking the trail. This portage runs alongside a river with large rapids. There are some very nice vistas for pictures. We were on this portage in June of 2003 and spotted a canoe that had been wedged up against a large rock in the middle of this river under the flow of the water (the canoe was most likely unrecoverable, hopefully no injuries). Make sure that all canoes are securely on land on the Fern Lake side of the portage as failing to do so may result in a canoe taken down the river and possibly destroyed.
