Falls Chain #6 to Kenny |
Quetico portage Posted by: Allen Thies Season/Year: Fall 98 Water Level: low Length: 30? rods Rating: difficult | Additional Perspectives: Dan Williamson John Rapos |
Portage Description:
Traveling downstream, pull your canoe into the little notch on the left where the normally-used portage trail goes off into the woods to the left. But climb the rock face to the RIGHT instead. You will find yourself on a hogback island with great views of Canyon Falls. Suggest you scout the very rough trail along this hogback down to the landing at the other end -- scout it unloaded to see whether a put-in and launch will be feasible right at the foot of Canyon Falls (one of the most beautiful spots in Quetico). I suspect at other than low water it would not be safe to put-in and launch at the bottom of this hogback island. If not safe, return up the island and carry the longer and less picturesque portage off to the left, which goes directly away from the water and then down into a ravine and up again with a hairpin turn.
Lake after portage: Kenny

Lake Description:
Kenny Lake is pretty but mostly too shallow for good fishing. Hurry up and get into Kawnipi, the fisherman's Valhalla!
