Portage Description:
This portage is steep and the blowdown made maneuvering the canoe tricky at times. The real treat was the hornet nest right on the bottom of the portage at the waters edge of Emerald. We both got stung! Be careful!!! The steepness is the tough part. If you plan to go from Carp to the Man chain this is easier than the long tough portage from Sheridan to the man chain.

Lake after portage: Emerald
Known campsites: 4
Lake Description:

Emerald is appropriately named for its water color. The blowdown of 1999 has had some impact and the Quetico Park Service is planning a controlled burn in September of 2000. the fishing was great for Smallies and lake trout. The lake is very deep and not often traveled. Worth a visit!!!
