Portage Description: This portage is found back in an inlet and is pretty obvious once you see it, don't be fooled by the many anmimal trails around. The portage is truely "sauvage", due mainly to one feature -- a long marsh near the south end of the portage. In this low water year, sucky mud was hip deep. Best passage was by putting packs back in the boats and pulling them through while trying to stand on grass clumps and logs along the side. Arduous. Trail otherwise muddy but walkable, with 3 or 4 steep rocks to maneuver up or down. Lake after portage: Fern Known campsites: 1 Lake Description: Main feature of importance to us was a great BEACH directly across from the Sauvage Portage. A much needed break before continuing on.
