Portage Description:
The first part of the portage is from Clearwater Lake to a pond which was unnamed on our map. We decided to call it "Swamp Dog Pond" but found out later it is actually called Judd Lake, at least on some maps. This part of the portage was long, and had some unpleasant muddy pits, but not really too bad. After crossing the pond, there is an additional 70 rod portage to Rock Island Lake. Depending on water levels you may be able to paddle part of it. The entrance to Rock Island Lake winds up in a very swampy area, so be prepared to get wet and muddy.

Lake after portage: Rock Island
Known campsites: None at all
Lake Description:

This was a very beautiful and quiet lake. The water is very clear. The map we had indicated one camp site on Rock Island Lake. However, the fire grate and biffy have been removed, so apparently this camp site has been closed. There was evidence that a lot of people have been ignoring this fact, however. It's too bad, because after the long portage from Clearwater Lake, we didn't really want to continue on to Lake Two that day.
