Portage Description:
Many "ankle-twister" rocks along the way - no grassy sections at all. Some relatively short but tough uphill sections when coming from Snowbank Lake. Portage is very near some cabins in a cove. Snowbank can pick up wind pretty quickly - all was calm as we left the put-in, so we took the "short-but-unprotected" route and by the time we made it to the bigger island, the waves had grown to 2-3 feet. Luckily, they were pushing us where we wanted to go... but with 2 moms and 2 small kids, we likely would take the more sheltered route next time no matter what it looked like when we shoved off.

Lake after portage: Parent
Known campsites: 2
Lake Description:

Parent Lake 2 campsites very nice. Tried to find the hike-in campsite from land and water but never could. Ranger back in Ely assures us it is there, but we don't believe it. Had been told we could use hiker campsites as the area was so popular this time of year. Lake is rocky around edges with occasional sand patches. Abundant loons (5 swam by us together!). Plenty of traffic as people head back and forth to Snowbank.
