Splash to Newfound

Boundary Waters portage
Posted by: John H.
Season/Year: Summer 02
Water Level: unsure
Length: 30 rods
Rating: easy
Additional Perspectives:

Portage Description:
This was the easiest portage we encountered during our trip. I could drive my car through it-relatively flat and wide. My 14 year old son, the youngest and smallest person in our group, carried the canoe on this one with no problem. This is a good portage to help someone in your group who is inexperienced gain confidence in portaging. No reason to double portage here.

Lake after portage: Newfound
Known campsites: not sure
Lake Description:

The water is very shallow on the Newfound Lake side and we had to walk our canoes about 40 yards to get into water deep enough to continue. Two motor boats with several fishermen were anchored near the portage and we continued to see numerous motor boats for the remaining portion of our trip back to base.
