Portage Description: The "Devil's Cascade" portage. A real bear either way you go. A lot of elevation gain to the middle (but of course a lot worse coming upstream). But the midpoint has a delightful wide grassy area primo for resting (and in my case, catching some midday Zs). The wide spot is actually an intersection between a spur of the nearby hiking trail and the portage trail. There is a campsite at an overlook at the end of this spur. But it is frequently occupied, so don't count on enjoying the view alone. Lake after portage: Little Indian Sioux River Known campsites: 8+ Lake Description: Lower Little Indian Sioux river is much straighter than upper stretches (confined between ridges), but still little or no discernible current. Empties into Loon lake where there are lots of BWCA campsites, as well as motor traffic from nearby Crane Lake and Lac La Croix. Portage from Little Indian Sioux River into: Upper Pauness Little Trout
