Portage Description:
The portage from Lower Pauness to the bottom of the Devils Cascade was mostly downhill with a short leveling at the campsite overlooking the river about halfway. There are many paths to the cascading river where photo opportunities are plentiful. along this route there are many improvements to the trail to make footing safer as the bottom end of this trail is quite steep, but generally a good path. This trail is much easier going north than coming back south to Lower Pauness. The northern end is quite steep and would be difficult for someone in poor physical condition carrying a canoe and possibly pack. We traveled it on a rainy day, but were careful and didn't have any problem with excessive slipping.

Lake after portage: Little Indian Sioux River
Known campsites: not sure
Lake Description:

Didn't make it to Loon Lake as it was getting late. The fishing in the channel to the lake was however quite good towards evening with many Smallmouth bass, Walleyes, and Northerns being caught down to the spot in the river that has several boulders in the water.
