Portage Description:
There are actually two portages from Kawishiwi to Clear Lake. One to the east which is direct to Clear Lake, the second further west which goes through Eskwagama on the way to Clear Lake.

The eastern portage is shorter, but is a real muck hole on the Kawishiwi side when the water is remotely low. The water becomes too viscous to paddle your canoe through about 50 feet from shore. Its all muck from waist to chest deep from there. The portage itself is easy (if you can stand the smell of yourself during your carry). The Clear Lake end of this portage is very nice, and a real opportunity to clean yourself off before you go back for the boat

The west portage through Eskwagama was much more pleasant, though not well traveled. In fact, coming from Clear lake, the beginning of the portage at the south end of Eskwagama is difficult to find. Each of these two portages on the Eskwagama is in the 100 rod range.

Lake Description:

Nice quiet lake. There wasn't another soul on it when we were there. There is a good site on the Far north end of the lake. I did not get a good look at the other sites. Fishing for Northern Pike was excellent and there was a lot of weed structure to fish. If you are looking for a quiet spot off of the Kawishiwi, I would recommend it.
