Kawishiwi River* to North Kawishiwi River* |
Boundary Waters portage Posted by: Jim DeVries Season/Year: Summer 02 Water Level: low Length: 220 rods Rating: difficult | Additional Perspectives: |
Portage Description:
Portage is very long and very difficult. Numerous long hills, narrow, and rocky. One of the first hills is the face of a slippery rock. Boardwalk later on keeps you out of the muck at the low point between two hills. Landing on the west side is very nice, always thought it would make a great campsite. Only two campsites left from here to Farm Lake.
Lake after portage: North Kawishiwi River*
Known campsites: None at all
Lake Description:
Lake after this portage is again narrow and no current. Usually a pretty stiff breeze out of the west by the afternoon. Some large cliffs and the portage up those cliffs to Greenstone Lake lies along this section. Next portage is only about 10-15 minutes away.
