Portage Description:
Let me qualify "never again". Taking this route in the Fall with low water levels turned a 1 hour paddle into a 7 hour epic journey. And I mean just to get to the Wawiag River. At times the creek was only a couple inches deep. Carryovers (beaver dams, log jams) were the easy parts. We at times had creek bottom up to our shins. Once we hit the Wawiag despite a couple good log jams, we made good time. However, we were paddling in nearly pitch darkness and luckily found an elevated, wide-enough portion of river bank to pitch our tent. We made Kawa Bay mid-afternoon the next day and decided to set up camp to recuperate before heading to our final destination on Kawnipi.
