Portage Description:
This is the portage from Kawnipi, as you round the bend to head south into the Kahshawpiwi creek, leading into the chain of lakes leading to Kashapiwi (Cairn, Sark, Keefer...).

This can be a tricky and dangerous little portage around s short set of rapids. With low, moderate water, you CAN make it to the put in just before the rapids. HOWEVER, when we were there in May, the water was roaring, and to attempt to make it to the primary put in would have been suicidal. You would get sucked down backwards and surely capsize. A "new" put in for this spring exists about 20 yards upstream on the left.

Lake Description:

This is now the Kashapiwi creek, and fishing for Smallmouth and Pike is excellent. For further travel southward, I recommend that you take the portage into Heronshaw and then into Cairn, rather than the 2-3 portages further along the Kashawpiwi creek.
