Kawnipi to McKenzie |
Quetico portage Posted by: Chris Hoepker Season/Year: Summer 03 Water Level: average Length: 680 meters Rating: average | Additional Perspectives: stevedug |
Portage Description:
We called this the green portage because it was somewhat overgrown and went through really nice forest from start to finish. The unload/load is decent at both ends. The trail goes up over a rise in the land. The west end, being at the very east end of McKenzie Bay, is easy to find. The east end on McKenzie Lake is a little harder. I found it pretty much as marked on the Kawnipi Lake 52-B-6 Canadian topo. On the return we used a compass to find it.
Lake after portage: McKenzie
Known campsites: 4
Lake Description:
Big beautiful clear lake. We caught Smallmouth and Northern Pike just by trolling along. The best campsite is about 7 km from the portage.
