Saganagons to Falls Chain #2 |
Quetico portage Posted by: Dan Williamson Season/Year: Spring 00 Water Level: average Length: 40 rods Rating: average | Additional Perspectives: |
Portage Description:
This is the first portage in the Falls Chain, leading out of Saganagons Lake into the Maligne River. This portage can be extended to include the 5 rod portage immediately following if necessary. We found this portage to be relatively easy and the landings more than adequate. When heading down river, always veer to the right at any forks in the trail. This will give you the shortest portage, and the rapids you will encounter as a result are very easy to negotiate. When going down river, the 5 rod portage following this one is totally unnecessary; it is just a chute of fast water. When traveling upstream, you may need to use the landing for the 5 rod portage if the water level is high. We were able to canoe up this fast-water chute with little difficulty in early June, however. Then continue on to the next portage landing. In general, this portage trail is wide, smooth, and well-travelled.
