Portage Description: Starting from the area in the creek adjacent to the portages into Heronshaw Lake, there are three portages along the way into Cairn Lake. Two are marked on Mackenzie and Fisher. The short one that is not marked is around a small set of rapids (I suppose that you could wade these) and lies between two portages that lead into Heronshaw. This is followed by a short but hilly 40 rod portage and then a 20 rod portage made difficult by the fact that the creek has overflowed the portage and at you must wade at times in water to the mid-calf level. A tricky little rock ledge with wet feet follows. Lake after portage: Cairn Known campsites: 2 Lake Description: An extraordinarily attractive lake with high cliff walls to the east and numerous little streams. There really is only one good campsite on the southern tip of the second island as you head south. Portage from Cairn into: Sark
