Portage Description:
The 1995 Quetico Park canoe route map has it marked pretty much correctly. On our first time through in 1995 we found out the hard way about the problems trying to portage up Kahshahpiwi Creek directly to Cairn Lake. That year low water in the small bay did make getting in to the portage a rather muddy affair.

I changed the origin from Kawnipi Lake to Kahshahpiwi Creek because Kawnipi ends at a double waterfall about 2.5 km north of this portage. I consider this 2.5 km of flat water south of the falls as Kahshahpiwi Creek. (By this reasoning the water north of the falls would be the Maligne River.)
