Keats to Shelley |
Quetico portage Posted by: Orygoner Season/Year: Fall 04 Water Level: average Length: 45 rods Rating: difficult | Additional Perspectives: |
Portage Description:
This portage is actually on the flowing channel between the flat water of Keats and Shelley. It is upstream of the first portage out of Keats (not Have a Smoke portage, but the one to the south). This is a fairly short but difficult trail...twisted horizontal and vertical alignment and brushy. Seems to be much less used than the portage just downstream (leaving Keats). We called it "payback portage" since the portages our our journey were good until this one
Lake after portage: Shelley
Known campsites: not sure
Lake Description:
This began the flat water of Shelley Lake. There is a nice camp on a small island just across from the mouth of the long bay that runs back to the Southwest from Shelley.
