Portage Description: This portage comes close to the never again rating. Although listed at 220 my feet and back believe it is more like 300 rods. This rates as one of my top 5 most difficult portages in the past 12 years. There are two significant rises in the portage and a swamp (literally) about two thirds of the way through. If you are a novice paddle around or spend several hours of humping through some tough terrain. Also one of the buggiest portages I can remember. This is a good place to twist an ankle or blow a knee so be careful. Lake after portage: Ensign Known campsites: 8+ Lake Description: Ensign: A first tier lake which takes a lot of traffic and many squatters. This is a lake to paddle through and move on to Vera for the night. Portage from Ensign into: Return to Boot Vera Splash Ashigan
