Portage Description:
I've actually made this portage twice (97 and 00). Much of the trail is a former logging road and is wide, smooth and firm. The final 20 to 30 rods descend rather sharply to the river and can be difficult -- narrow, and rock strewn. Watch your footing carefully here. The landing into the river is spacious enough for multiple canoes. Because there are far easier routes into Bald Eagle, this entry point doesn't get much use, but the river is actually quite pretty and worth the extra effort in my mind.

Lake Description:

Bald Eagle is a large and popular lake. It's eastern (?) end, where the Isabella and Snake rivers enter, is shallow and weedy. The lake grows deeper as you travel west. It is a stained water lake and holds walleye, northern and small mouth bass. It's a popular lake and the campsites tend to be pretty worn down.
