Portage Description:
Portage is tough because it is long. Going in the first 3/4 of the trail is good with a number of small hills. The end of the portage into the lake is rougher than the rest of the trail and is mostly down hill, but still rolling. One low spot that was muddy near the lake but the rest of the trail was dry. The portage was mostly sandy gravel, particularly on the parking lot end. Many parts of the trail have room for people to pass without one having to go all the way into the woods. Lots of room to put in canoes and store gear at the lake.

Lake after portage: Gabbro
Known campsites: 8+
Lake Description:

Shoreline was mostly rock. Fire damage still evident on the north side of Gabbro. Nice campsite on an island just before the portage into Bald Eagle. Good fishing on both sides of the portage between Gabbro and Bald Eagle.
